Requesting a visa for the right purpose

Foreigners who wish to enter the Bundesrepublik Deutschland for travel purposes usually come to the country by applying for a visa.
Often, however, travellers come to the country on a visitor's visa and wish to stay here for other purposes. This may be  for educational purposes or for of family reunion. 

In this case it is important to know: The requirements for achieving a residence permit for other purposes on the basis of a visitor visa are very strict. Even if there is a reason for the residence permit, the authorities usually ask you to return to your home country and enter with the correct visa.
It is therefore more promising to enter with the correct visa right from the start.

An interesting aspect here is therefore: Which residence purposes would come into consideration?

In this context, the law lists the following purposes of stay:

• residence for the purpose of training
• residence for the purpose of application
• residence for the purpose of attending language courses
• residence for the purpose of employment 
• residence for reasons of international law, humanitarian or political reasons
• residence for family reasons

The immigrant is required to show his or her legal residence purposes. It is also possible that several claims and purposes may be considered in addition to each other.

The residence permits depend on different requirements, which need to be checked in each individual case. It is also examined for which duration the residence permit is limited.
The possibility of extending the residence permit is possible under certain circumstances.
