Gemeint ist ein Warnsignal beim Bremsen.
Heute vor 100 Jahren, am 04. Oktober 1922, wird in den USA eine Vorrichtung zum Patent angemeldet, die das Abbremsen eines Fahrzeugs hinweisen sollte
Das Ganze war nicht als Leuchte ausgeführt, sondern als Schild – und dekorativ war es auch
Interessanterweise gibt es auch zwei Stufen, den Hinweis auf langsame Fahrt (SLOW) und den Hinweis auf ein Anhalten (STOP).
Gut, dass es im Englischen genug Vier-Buchstaben-Wörter gibt, für die deutsche Sprache wäre die Umsetzung schon etwas schwieriger…aber die Hand hätte weltweit ihre Signalwirkung gehabt
Wegweisend war besonders der Gedanke der automatischen Betätigung
„...intended to be operated through a connection to certain movable parts of the brake mechanism…”
In noch größerem Detail führt der Originaltext aus:
It may be attached, by a bracket or clamp, to any conspicuous part of the body or mud-guard of the vehicle and is ordinarily intended to be operated through a connection to certain movable parts of the brake mechanism, as for instance the brake-rods, so that in the act of applying the brakes to the vehicle the signal will automatically function; it may, however, be operated by means independent of the brakes, as any suitable combination of cables and levers extending forward to, and within easy reach of, the driver may be utilized.

l wish, however, to call attention -to one feat-ure of the invention which l believe merits particular notice, namely, the progressive method of signaling in which both the “slow” and “stop” signals may be given by the operator of the vehicle by the use of one continuous forward movement of the actuating means.
